Opened in 2002, Arlington Place offers seniors a chance to live in their own private apartment, yet receive additional assistance to enjoy a happy and independent lifestyle. Amenities include weekly housekeeping & laundry service, 3 meals a day, garbage pick up at each apartment, and 24 hour staff support. Personal and health care services can include medication monitoring, dressing & bathing assistance, scheduled checks, and nursing services. Unique features include beauty/barbershop, whirlpool room, private dining room for family gatherings, library/lounge area and recreational activities.

Grandview Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center is a 93-bed, 100-employee full care nursing facility, Medicare and Medicaid certified, with daily skilled care including physical therapy, occupational therapy and respiratory therapy, IVs & feeding tubes, and 1 of only 2 in Iowa who care for people who are respiratory dependent or on ventilators. 60% of skilled care patients return home each year. Grandview has a large bus with lift van for outings. Adult daycare available.

The Mealey Retirement Apartments, located on the upper floors of the Mealey Hotel has 33 attractive apartments, studio, as well as one and two bedroom units with amenities including meals, shopping, errands, light housekeeping, laundering, and secured storage. The secured building also has lounge, dining area and kitchen for residents & guests, as well as a full restaurant located on the first floor of the hotel. Adult daycare available.

Oelwein Health Care Center (OHCC) provides many health care services for the residents of Oelwein and the surrounding area. The services include rehabilitation, skilled, long-term respite and adult day care. They are a Medicare and Medicaid certified facility. OHCC's motto "Where love lives" is reflected in the quality care that is provided. They are the proud recipients of the 2002 Governor's Award for quality care in health care facilities.

Caregiver Support Groups meet at Arlington Place Assisted Living, 1101 3rd St. SW.
First Tuesday each month at 6:30; first Thursday at 1:30.


COMMUNITY TRANSIT BUS

Northeast Iowa Community Action Transit
Suggested contribution is $1.70 per ride. Packet of tickets, $17.00.

RSVP - Retired and Senior Volunteer Program

     RSVP engages individuals 55 and older in volunteer service to help meet community needs; and to provide a high quality experience that will enrich the lives of volunteers..
     Volunteers are matched with students grades K-5 in all four elementary schools in Oelwein who have been identified by the school as being in need of assistance.
     They listen to students read and discuss what was read, help them practice writing, assist students with specific assignments. and have lunch at the school once a week with their matched students.
     RSVP of Oelwein is part of RSVP of Black Hawk County, which is sponsored by Covenant Health System.
