Perks Program - Magic Money Thursdays ...
Mystery Money (Oelwein Dollars) will be located at two businesses designated as 'Secret Business' on the first and third Thursdays each month. If you are the first person to wear your Positively Oelwein shirt into a Secret Business, you will win mystery money. October Magic Money Businesses were the Cardinal and Rite price Office Supply. Thanks to Sandy Bradley and Dana Bostian for wearing their Positively Oelwein attire to win the October Magic Money. November Magic Money will be Thursdays, Nov. 15 & 29. If the Mystery Money is not claimed, it will be added to future jackpots. To participate or for more information, contact Tina Huffman or Darla Recker at 283-2560.
Pride/Cleanup Committee ...
This group of active volunteers work to promote the improved appearance of the city and to facilitate those property owners who wish to make improvements to their homes and businesses. They are involved in:
working with the City of Oelwein on spring and fall clean-up days
planting flowers in the OCAD parking lot
decorating the downtown for fall, Christmas, and other special occasions
ribbons placed on light poles for causes such as honoring our troops and for breast cancer awareness
Pride Awards ...
Positively Oelwein will honor those who make property improvements by bestowing a pride award to nominated businesses and property owners several times a year. Congratulations to Savannah's Massage, Woodworks by the Lake, and International Ingredient Corp. for receiving the Business Improvement Positively Oelwein Award in October.
Golden O Awards presented for 2007 ...
Business of the Year - International Ingredients - for their notable efficient waste management program. They employy 39 people.
Volunteer of the Year - Gene Fuelling - for his extensive work with the Business Development Committee, attracting new business to Oelwein.
Citizen of the Year - Jeff Niemann - for work with Oelwein Private Investment Corporation, working for long-range improvement to the downtown building infrastructure.
Lifetime Achievement - the late Gene Vine - Oelwein's longest serving mayor, also served as councilman for serveral years, and who initiated many important city improvements.
Bury Doom & Gloom Street Festival ...
On June 29, a crowd gathered to watch a Jazz Funeral Procession, complete with a Dixieland Band and a
horse-drawn hearse, proceed south on Frederick Avenue. The parade ended at a designated burn site where negative comments
were read and thrown into the fire. A street dance followed. Citizens are encouraged from this day forward to 'do
away' with all 'doom & gloom' attitudes and create a refreshed and renewed community spirit.
Bury Doom & Gloom T-shirts are on sale at the OCAD office for $10.

Mission Statement ...
Positively Oelwein is a campaign to market our community to ourselves and to others. Our goal is to encourage each Oelwein resident, each business, and each organization to be a positive spokesperson for our community.
Meetings ...
Positively Oelwein meetings are held the third Thursday of the month at 5:15pm in the OCAD meeting room. Anyone who would like to get involved is welcome to attend.
