Italian Heritage Days

Held annually at Red Gate Park. More details to be announced for 2012 date.

Heritage Days


Annually held 3rd Weekend in August. This year's event will be held August 18-19, 2012.

A great chance to get in touch with local heritage and celebrate our past. Railroad History - Large Flea Market - Beautiful Quilts - 5K Race - Vintage Cars - Arts & Crafts - Street Dance - Musical Entertainment - Games - Window Displays - Sidewalk Sales - Lunch Stands

Out-of-town guests can make Oelwein their weekend destination and area residents can renew their local heritage. Fun for the entire family!

Farmers Market


Mondays 3-6pm & Fridays 8-11am - mid-May to mid-October - at NE City Pkg. Lot near the intersection of Hwy 150 and Hwy 3. Contact Delphine Deaner, 319-636-9122 for info.

 

Friday Night Downtown Park'n

Third Friday each month in summer - sponsored by Oelwein OddRods Club. Car enthusiasts welcome to park 6:00-10:00pm and enjoy sharing their enthusiasm for vintage cars. Complete with hot rods, door prizes, DJs. No charge for car owners or spectators. (Quote: "...it is different each time. It is a nice Friday night out and we can see some of the cars we grew up with..." --R.G.)  

Celebration Oelwein


Our annual old fashioned Fourth of July celebration includes a parade at 10:30am, entertainment, contests and games, food, car show, and Miss Oelwein Contest at City Park during the afternoon and evening, and fireworks show at dusk.

Olde Tyme Christmas

 

Held annually the first Friday evening and Saturday of December.
Santa arrives in Oelwein! Activities include pictures with Santa, strolling carolers, the Melody Moms, Steil's Studio dancers, Festival of Trees, Grinch contest, carriage rides, Business window contest, a holiday market and craft show at the Plaza, Chocolate Walk, Life-size Candy Land Game, Chili Cookoff, Mr. Nick Balloons, Kids Tatoos, and a Lighted parade. Something new added each year! Stores will be open for holiday shoppers!

Lovelights Lighting Ceremony


First Monday in December at Mercy Hospital. Sponsored by Mercy Hospital Auxiliary.

Oelwein City Park and Campground. City Park offers boating, fishing, trails, playground equipment, and picnic area. Modern site (electricity, water and AC) is $12 per day or $70 per week. Open 1:00-4:00 every Sunday June to September, or anytime by appointment.

The Oelwein Public Library offers public internet computers, a genealogy section with microfilm reader printer, a children's room, a reading room with current and archived newspapers and magazines, reference service, and over 45,000 books and materials. Click for library website.
